The Dollar General Shipwreck comes to us as a hybrid homage to the Devil’s Due comic and 2002 toyline versions. I’ve been a fan of the look as an alternative to his Popeye the sailor getup, and it’s nice to see him brought into the modern style.
The movie line figure of 2009 was a decent interpretation, but I wasn’t fond of the reactive armor. This version incorporates the head from that figure, which is a great sculpt, but not without a slight problem. It doesn’t fit well on the torso’s neck ball, and so Shippy is a giraffe neck. A little Dremel work can remedy that, however.
Like the other figures in the set, accessories are limited, although Shipwreck fares better than others, and includes not only a funky Renegades pistol, but also the breathing apparatus from his movie figure.
Have I written too often about Snake Eyes? I apologize if I have, but love him or hate him, you can't deny his presence. You also can't deny his wardrobe changes. Though most are of the black and grey variety, he did add a splash of color in 1991. I…
Joes in something other than full combat gear are interesting to me. We've all seen Duke, Snake Eyes and many others outfitted in either variations on their usual designs, or at least representations of some kind of field mission gear. Shipwreck has been seen in his classic 80s sailor getup,…

I hope these show up at dollar stores OUTSIDE of Dollar General.
Yikes. Than neck reminds me that I still miss the classic o-ring era.

For the “Giraffe neck”, I suggest to use the life vest:

Dremel and paint work – what’s up with the blue neck?! But it’s a solid figure, and I’m hoping Family Dollar gets them as well.
