Scrap Iron (2008)

Here’s something I never thought I’d see: an arctic themed Scrap Iron. He hails from the internet exclusive multi pack known as the Extreme Conditions: Arctic Assault Squad. What a mouthfull! The pack was decent enough at least for its offering of a couple more 25th anniversary style Snow Serpents, as well as a Snow Serpent officer. Scrap Iron here is the leader of the Cobra arctic squad, a nice change of pace for a character that was mostly around to be a “blow ’em up real good” type.

The colors used on the set as a whole were quite a nice change from the expected. Using a grey and muted blue sets off the set against a white snowy background, and also hearkens back to the 1985 Snow Serpent’s color scheme. They even gave the missiles a new coat of paint. Just getting Scrap Iron in something other than his traditional blue and red is a nice change of pace.

The figure puts together an interesting variation of the familiar Scrap Iron look. The different vest at least appears like it might be more suited to cold conditions than his original. Then again, the look isn’t so tied to the arctic that the figure can’t be used in other situations. I think it would look equally at home in an urban ops squad. Once again, the most impressive part of the modern version of this character is the head sculpt. The removable goggles with scarred face and one milk-white dead eye are a great added bonus that adds a lot of personality to the figure.

  • I remember the first time I saw his face under those goggles I was blown away, no pun intended. Those extra details made me want to collect modern, which I did for a couple years before refocusing my collecting efforts to ARAH only.

  • I was really happy to have found this set at Hastings. They have a weird knack at getting online exclusives in their stores. Scrap Iron was definitely what sold the set to me. The Snow Serpents were nice and all, but since discovering the figure for the first time in the Urban Assault TRU exclusive, I’ve been kind of obsessed with that character. I honestly prefer this version to the later comic pack version. I think the colors and construction are just a little better (and I didn’t need to buy another unnecessary, microcephalic Wild Bill to get him) and the head has the same color scheme that Urban Assault TRU pack Scrap Iron had.

  • Scrapiron seems like an odd choice for the squad leader. But it is nice to see him do more than blow cars up

  • I saw this set in a comic shop and missed the boat. I grabbed a 25th Firebat with AVAC so it wasn’t a loss.

  • Scrappy is one of the more underused Cobras so it’s always cool to see a new version pop up. Too bad I passed on both the desert and arctic sets when they first came out. I should have grabbed them went BBTS discounted these guys a few years back.

  • Along with the Snow Serpent Officer, this was one of the coolest figures in the set. I have both the Comic Pack and Arctic Pack versions, I consider both just as cool as the other.

  • Ugly face!
    Nice Scrappy version!
