Play GI Joe: Cobra Strike!
Thanks to the wondrous Internet Archive, we can all play hundreds of emulated classic video games online. We can even embed them on goofy blogs like mine–oh, and into tweets too! We’re living in an age of an embarrassment of riches when it comes to on-demand time wasting. Isn’t it glorious?
GI Joe saw a game released for the Atari 260p by Parker Brothers early in the Real American Hero days of the 1980s. Unfortunately, this one used the paddle controllers, so good luck getting it to work with a keyboard. The game is unique for offering not just one and two-player options, but a third can join in and control the giant cobra! Sure, it’s not pretty by today’s standards, but this is what we had when I was a kid–and we liked it! Now get off my lawn, you dang whippersnappers!
Even if this particular game isn’t the best, it’s nice to relive the days of more abstract video games and graphics. If you can’t play the GI Joe game, just watch the cobra slither across the screen. It’s hypnotizing you! You can also play tons of other gamed at the archive. I recommend Asteroids and Berzerk–they’re just as much fun as they were all those years ago. Kind of like old toys.

The way Rock&Roll is dodging that giant, laser shooting Cobra, reminds me of the adventure team toys
Neat-O!
I believe one of my brother’s friends had this one. I know I’ve played it (on the console), but also know that we didn’t own it. Otherwise I’m sure I’d have played it a lot more.
Didnt have this, but the next one to come out for NES – the side scroller one…
I love this game! It’s actually pretty fun, even if you can’t control the Joes dodging the lasers. But you CAN control the giant robotic Cobra shooting those lasers! Two player is best, and you can play against each other (Joe turrets v. Cobra) or together (you shoot and I’ll block). For Atari, it was a great game.
The Nintendo games is good and alot of fun. There’s all that could be better, but considering the limitations of the games back then it good. Some of the older games are so bad they’re almost un playable. This game looks boring and simple but alot of Atari games were.
Nice R&R!
