Duke (2012 Dollar General)
Is this really meant to be Duke? I think that name must have just been plastered on, since every Joe assortment seems to need at least one Duke and Snake Eyes. But then again, what do I know?
That’s not to say it’s a bad figure. I’ve been wanting more of the 82-83 style Joes to show up wearing the original style boots rather than the realistic lace-up boots that most of the 25th anniversary Joes sported. The futuristic boots were fascinating in the same way as much of the original 82-83 Joes’ uniforms. The look gave the toy line just that little bit of a sci-fi edge.
I see this figure as a raw recruit, rather than a named character. Some of that is due to his nondescript head sculpt. He doesn’t look like any previous iteration of Duke, especially the movie version. It doesn’t help that he’s got Pursuit of Cobra Dusty’s head. Dusty Duke? Actually, the whole appearance, including the helmet, brings to mind the greenshirts from Toys R Us Infantry Division pack of 2005, albeit without a slacker goatee.
The variant version would make a good Short-Fuze–much better than the one that came in the Ultimate Battle Pack. It can also work as Grunt.
As for this one–swap out the lower arms and the legs, alter the web gear, give him a new head, and you’ve got Sparks.
SHould have been Zap, not another duke, uggh.

I see him as either a Sunbow greenshirt or fodder for a couple of the original thirteen. This guy is well worth getting if you have a DG around.
Where are they mostly located?
They’re pretty widespread in the US midwest and south. But the figures have been pretty difficult to locate, even if you do have a bunch of DGs around.
Agreed…honestly, when I first saw the pics when they leaked without names, I’d assumed he was Grunt because he looked so generic. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be using him as that…I never got the Grunt they released in the 25th Anniversary line so a quick hair repaint, and I think I’ve got the perfect stand-in.
Well I doubt he’ll make it to the UK so he’s an easy pass for me.
The original Grunt had web gear not a shoulder harness though 🙂
Is there any way of taking it off without cutting it?
The ankle holster kinda ruins the look.
He is Grunt!!!
