Destro (2014 Kre-O)
What can I say about old chrome-head that hasn’t been said before? Well, that he’s never been quite so adorable–next to a crocheted version, of course.
Destro was only available in Kreon form as part of the Arashikage Dojo set, the largest and most expensive GI Joe Kre-O building kit available until the more recent Terrordrome. I will be honest and say that I waited on picking up the set. I found it for around $30 on Amazon.com, a few months before the Toys R Us clearance sales hit. I’m glad I did, because the dojo, while interesting in terms of features, doesn’t hold any significance for me. Why couldn’t they have made a Missile Command HQ? Anyway, Destro’s favorite lady-friend, the Baroness, also made an appearance in the same set. Getting two of the big name Cobras in the same package was a plus, and helped offset the “pack it away immediately” nature of the building itself.
The spiffy collar is my favorite element of the figure, and I’m glad it was designed as a separate piece rather than just painted detail. It makes Destro seem like one of the more deluxe Kreons. The man doesn’t deserve anything less. Now where is our Pimp Daddy variant?
He could team up with Legos Life on mars range
The face is perfect on him and I’m glad they vac-metalized his head. And the Dojo set isn’t terrible if you rebuild it as a slightly more modern building. Worth it for the HISS, too.
You hit the nail on the head: “the dojo, while interesting in terms of features, doesn’t hold any significance for me. Why couldn’t they have made a Missile Command HQ?”
Some of the set selections made no sense. I bought them all though, because I wanted all of the figures.
The “real” Destro!
Now that I’m collecting some Kreons here and there, this is the one I really “need” to complete my fav Cobras. Everyone else came in a more affordable set or was in the bagged collections. Destro is one of my usual “must buy” figures, this would be a great addition to the group.
