Storm Shadow (2004)

It’s good to see a ninja not sticking to one rigorous color scheme over his career. After all, white can get pretty boring after a while. Just look at the movie Storm Shadow. After just one film, he started to add some color blocking to his outfit. You gotta love a ninja with a little style. Released in the Ninja

Psyche-Out (1987)

1987–the last year that I bought GI Joe toys as a kiddo. It was chock full of Cobra strangeness as well as some key Joes that would stand as favorites many years later. Even though my interest in the toys was waning, I was nevertheless impressed with guys like Law & Order, Fast Draw, and Outback. Psyche-Out was pretty much

Cobra Laser Viper (2003)

Sometimes I’m really bummed about missing a few years of the 80s and 90s as a kid collector. 1988 through 1990 were off my radar until I started collecting again in 1991. As such, I often have a more difficult time remembering which toys are from which year. I know, it’s not a big deal, considering all of the web

Low-Light (1989)

The 1986 Low -Light is one of those iconic Real American Hero figures whose design I think can’t really be improved upon. The mold had a couple of repaints, and one as late as the 2000s still managed to impress. Even the modern construction version stayed very close to the original design. The Slaughter’s Marauders repaints are an odd bunch.

Action Pilot (1994)

With all the speculation about the goings on for GI Joe’s 50th birthday, and considering the collectors club has shown yet another small scale figure based on the original Joe, I thought I’d join in and talk about one of the 30th Salute figures. It’s hard for me to belive it’s been twenty years since the last big GI Joe

Dart (2003)

While some small Joe collectors are lamenting the fact that there doesn’t appear to be much mass retail GI Joe presence on the horizon, I have to feel even worse for those large scale figure collectors, who have already been without much in the way of new product. Even the latest film didn’t generate the traditional highly articulated twelve inch

Storm Shadow (2004 Urban Division)

The Ninja Force Storm Shadow has been one of my favorite of the famous ninja’s redesigns, at least in terms of the uniform. There’s something really interesting about the black and white pattern, and the hooded head is a cool nod to his second figure. But being a toy with spring-loaded action, he was hampered by poseability and proportion issues.

Baroness (2002)

Do not adjust your screens. Your eyes do not deceive you; this is a bubblegum colored Baroness. It’s more popularly known as fuchsia Baroness, but I’ve always thought her outfit exhibits a particularly bubble gummy shade of pink. I don’t know why I sometimes gravitate towards food, and specifically candy, when describing some toys. Maybe I shouldn’t write on an

Jungle Assault Duke (2010)

From the Predator series of GI Joe–I mean the Pursuit of Cobra, comes Jungle Assault Duke. It’s the sort of look that the team’s top sergeant hadn’t really sported before. I suppose the Tiger Force version was a jungle theme, at least in theory. I have to say that this Duke has most others beat in the meanness department. There’s
