Arctic Assault Captain America (2011)
If Past Nastification can throw down Tina Fey and Amy Poehler action figures on a GI Joe blog, you darn well better believe I’m going to come correct with more crazy tangential toys. Witness the might of Arctic Assault Captain America. When I first spotted the fire and ice themed Cap and Red Skull Target exclusive set, I had to have it. I mean, look at that helmet, and heavens to Kirby—-those pants!
The figure is a repaint of the First Avenger WWII era mold. It’s a pretty great adaptation of Cap’s comic outfit, although a little heavy in the straps department. What really gets me going however are the color choices. I’m a sucker for environment specific variants, and Hasbro just went pure toy crazy here. Instead of giving Cap a muted and realistic military winter scheme, the designers opted for full-on toy brilliance. We’re talking Kenner Batman levels of goofy. Maybe Target came to them with a specific request that their exclusive Cap stand out from others in the line. They definitely succeeded.
