Storm Shadow (2015)

With the dozens of Storm Shadow figures released over the years, it’s surprising to see that very few have referenced the 1988 version’s geometric camo outfit. More than half of the Stormys out there have released since the modern era began in 2007, and aside from a couple of movie line homages, this is only the second time we’ve seen this set of jammies revisited.

The body is of course from the 30th anniversary Storm Shadow figure, a mold I said that I would buy in any color. I’ve stayed true to that commitment, through Retaliation and other recent releases. As such, I don’t think i need to go into details regarding its poseability. I still think it looks pretty great in any pose. The only odd thing this time out is the head. It sits really high on the neck post. Maybe I’m losing my mind, but I don’t remember where this head comes from. I suppose a little Dremeling may be in order to rectify the giraffe neck.

Accessories are mostly in keeping with the original version, including a backpack molded in red. The red details on other weapons, like the swords and claw give the set a color continuity that helps make the red seem less intrusive among a mostly white figure. Again, I’m impressed by the multi-colored accessories we’ve been getting in this latest 50th Anniversary release.

While I’m normally one to go for a new interpretation of characters rather than a straight homage, I’m glad to see a modern version of this Storm Shadow. Now Hasbro needs to get on a repaint of the 30th mold based on the 1997 dalmation outfit. Yeah, I’d buy it.
