Night Watch Officer (2008)
You know how DC Comics’ Flash has Reverse-Flash, a villainous version of a hero character wearing the opposite colors of his antagonist? Well, this isn’t exactly like that, but it’s close. As I was digging through bags of figures to find the latest batch to photograph and write up for the site, I happened upon the Night Watch Officer and passed him up, thinking I’d already covered him. After all, the grey camo on the shirt seemed awfully familiar. Turns out I was wrong, and was remembering the 2008 Cobra Driver, who accompanied the Target exclusive HISS Tank. It’s a mistake anyone could make, right? Especially if one was simply tossing their new Joes into gallon bags willy-nilly as soon as they were purchased.
Regardless of its similarity to other figures, I like the color scheme. It’s not as obviously suited for night ops as the rank and file Cobras included in the pack, but then again Cobra wasn’t always big on following conventional military wisdom. I’m glad they go all-in on the flashy stuff.
He looks kinda buff! Cool figure, and a little more interesting than his O-ring counterpart.
Nice colors!
If only Hasbro had learned to repaint army builders ad naseum during the ARAHC days. I’d have loved multiple TRU sets full of differently colored Cobra Troopers and Vipers. At least the Black Major took care of a lot of these for us.
Cobra Troopers in black is a surprisingly unexplored medium, at least in the vintage line. It would have been a nice, alternate color for a lot of molds.
