Cobra Commander (2008 DVD Battles Pack)
Battle Helmet Cobra Commander. Bumper Face. Rust Breath.
While I find the original Cobra Commander figure to be the iconic portrayal of the character, I’ve always wanted to have him more closely resemble his cartoon version. Though the RAH line only gave us one battle helmeted Commander, the lines that followed made up for the lack. The new sculpt series gave it a few shots, and were fairly successful, if different interpretations of the look. The 25th anniversary series seemed to heap them on one after another.
They finally got it right with the DVD battle pack, interestingly included piloting a Cobra CLAW. The first thing I did when I opened the pack was to remove the glider and its attached straps, revealing one of the greatest modern versions of Cobra’s supreme sibilant serpent.
While most of the body remains the same from previous versions, the head is where the figure shines. A chromed faceplate is something I had hoped to see since I was a kid, or at least since I had first seen vac-metal on an action figure (C-3PO and R2-D2 had it, why not Joes?) The helmet also has the center stripe, which I have always liked for some reason.
And let’s not forget the inclusion of two hands that can hold things–which was not present on the first few 25th Anniversary Cobra Commanders. Man, I still need to be lucky to stumble onto the remaining DVD packs in closeout stores…
I’m still looking for this version of CC for all the reasons you mention, with the chromed faceplate and center stripe being the main selling points. Going by those pics, he really looks like the ultimate Cobra Commander figure for any old school fan or collector out there.
In defence of the original 25th CC, the fist was useful for shaking in defiance when retreating.
However, this guy, pitch perfect.

Love this CC, probably one of my fav figs of the 25th era of Joe.
nevermind C-3PO and R2-D2… the Joe line DID have vac-metallization, Destro got a chrome head and Super Trooper had chrome body armor!!!
Man, I searched for that last DVD pack for months in vain, mostly for that Cobra Commander. I liked screaming Duke, too.
I prefer rag-face but this is a pretty decent version.
My favorite 25th figure too.
